Happy Hanukkah from all of us at the Jewish Future Pledge!
While we celebrate Hanukkah with our family, friends, and community, Jewish Future Pledge Founder Mike Leven shares a message:
As we light the menorah and spin the dreidel, I want to reflect on the holiday.
We know of the miracle of Hanukkah: the Maccabees had oil for one day, and it lasted for eight. But what’s more relevant is that in order to maintain the Jewish people, Judaism, and their tradition, these Maccabees had to fight.
Hanukkah for me, is more about pride than the miracle of the lights.
It means that we cannot accept a dissolution of our tradition. Change must be disruptive, not destructive. We need to encourage the Jewish community to work together, instead of finding reasons to be apart.
Like the Maccabees, we must not compromise our values or way of life. When we stand for what we believe in, no miracles are needed.
As you celebrate Hanukkah, please also consider sharing Mike’s message as well as the Jewish Future Pledge to anyone in your life that shares your commitment to a Jewish Future.
